Gongothri

Thank you for partnering with Mission to Children. I can’t overstate the importance of your partnership in helping to spread the gospel while ministering to the needs of vulnerable children.

I don’t fully understand what most of these children have had to endure. Yet I thank God that by His grace, you and I get to participate in His work to reach them, redeem them, and restore them. This is God’s work—and for His glory.

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
Psalm 46:10

Today, it’s my joy to share about a youth you’ve helped, named Gongothri. She’s a 15-year-old orphan at our Beracah ministry hub in Karnataka, India.

By God’s purpose, Christian field partners rescued Gongothri from the slums—but more to the point, they rescued her from an abusive aunt and uncle who were taking advantage of her for free labor. Her situation required intervention.

At the ministry hub, Gongothri has a safe place to sleep at night. In the care of social workers, she grows stronger through meals, singing with other children, Bible teaching, and an education. All of these daily blessings add up to remind Gongothri that God loves her, He cares for her, and He has saved her through faith in Jesus Christ.

“From day one, I am experiencing the love of Jesus through the staff and all the children. Now I have a family of Jesus, [a family] who cares for me!” she said with tears of joy.

Though her stay at the ministry may be temporary, the testimony of God’s love will be permanent. She’s learning what a “family” can become when it’s transformed by the gospel . . . even her own relatives.

Gongothri wants to share the gospel with her aunt and uncle. Join us in praying for clear next steps; we believe that God is orchestrating every detail. Her desire reminds us that when the gospel reaches a child, it can transform the family, even the community. Nothing can remain the same because God’s word never returns void (Isaiah 55:11). He makes all things new. “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” Luke 18:27.

Today, please give a year-end gift to equip us for the ministry God has prepared for us this coming 2020. The daily blessings of meals, education, and Bible teaching are your gifts adding up to a greater good.

Every prayer and gift through faith produces work to reach children like Gongothri and share the love of Jesus with them.

We work so that: “One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts” Psalm 145:4.

Together in Christ,

P.S. Please excuse this long postscript. Along with my gratitude for you, I can’t close this letter without sharing my gratitude for the Mission to Children team of staff, contractors, and the board of directors. We need to remember that the ministry is bigger than any one person. It’s all of us. Our staff consistently amazes me through their diligence to strive for excellence—and their good humor. God is at work in each of them. It’s been special to watch them grow and learn during the year.

We also have a couple of Christian contractors who produce solid work that rarely gets seen by anyone—it’s work that ultimately helps put food on the table for children in India.

Last, but not least. We recently held our end-of-year board meeting for 2019. I thank God (often) for our board. In unity, they guard and guide the integrity of our mission, holding fast to Scripture.
