Ritualists Defeated by a Little Boy’s Prayer

Our newest partner in Kenya, Africa shared this testimony with us. We’re passing it along to you because it illustrates the effectiveness of ministering to at-risk children with prayer and God’s word. It’s one of many examples of why we do what we do. And it proves that your partnership matters.

Gasira, a teacher from a small town in Kenya, started a Bible class, and has been discipling children from various tribes and extremely poor backgrounds.

Recently she witnessed the following miracle:

It was Saturday, and 11-year-old Allan’s mom sent him to the grocery store to buy vegetables before he could join about 100 other children for the afternoon Bible class at Gasira’s home.

Around 2pm, Allan was walking to the store when a car stopped nearby. A man got out and struck the boy’s face with a piece of cloth, knocking him out. The man threw the unconscious boy into the car and drove off.

Allan is an active, well-known kid in the Bible class. So, when hours passed, and Allan was neither in the Bible class nor at home, tension grew. The community began looking for him.

Allan reappeared at 7:30 pm with his hands tied. The 5th-grader recalled waking up and finding himself in an unfinished building, surrounded by 3 men. His feet and hands were tied. He was beaten. He cried.

He remembered how Gasira taught him to pray, so he prayed.

2 of the men drove to town to refuel their vehicle. The 3rd man untied Allan’s legs but left his hands tied. Then he went outside to smoke. That’s when Allan narrowly escaped death.

Most likely, Allan would have been killed and sacrificed.

Child sacrifice is a common ritual in African communities such as this one. Deceived by the enemy’s lies, adults offer child sacrifices in exchange for political favor, victory in tribal wars, business success, or simply to gain prosperity. The blood of young boys and girls is highly valued because children are thought to be either sinless or less sinful than adults.

The Sunday following Allan’s return, his parents went to church for the first time. They thanked and worshiped the God whom Gasira has been teaching their kids about. The one true God who rescued their child from certain death.

Through a chilling ordeal, God has just won a family to Himself. Hallelujah!!

We give God all the glory.
