Heroes in the Slums of Mumbai
March 2010

The kids directly below are learning Christlikeness thru Character Solutions-trained teachers. These children attend a slum school in Mumbai, India.

Do you think character training will make a difference for these slum children?

We believe so. Transparency International wrote in their 2007 report:

The poor, whether in developing or highly [industrialized] countries, are the most [penalized] by corruption. They are also more pessimistic about the prospects for less corruption in the future.

Through our Character Solutions® program and by God’s grace, we plan to turn this pessimism into optimism because each child can improve their society, country, and world by being citizens of character. They will become heroes in my book, what about yours?

We are ONE in the family of God
March 6-7, 2010

I want to share some photos with you while I serve orphans and other destitute kids here in Bangalore, India.

Our schedule is filled with ministry privileges. This past weekend I was at our children's home in a large room half filled with about 45 abandoned and other destitute kids. Filling the other half were about 38 children plus 6 or more parents—all of them HIV-positive.

One of several moving moments was when the destitute kids stood up, turned, faced the HIV kids and sang a song to the AIDS victims. Their message in the words of that song: "Welcome! We are one in the family of God." Priceless.

The next day we presented our Character Solutions seminar to about 100 street children and staff in downtown Bangalore. You’ll notice in one of the photos below, one of the boys proudly displaying his very own copy of CSI's translated curriculum. It was a big blessing to serve these children. This new CSI ministry relationship became a reality due to the initiative of Ravi, an alumnus of our Bangalore children's home!

Ravi is now a professional journalist and law student. He organized and led our meeting with street children. He has deep compassion for needy children. He used to be one of them himself. (May God anoint him for this journey!)

I’ve been told that Bangalore has over 70,000 street children. Through these and other relationships it appears possible that our CSI/India team will influence about 16,000 Bangalore street kids in the coming 18 months!

Our training today in Goa was for approximately 130 pastors, educators, physicians, community leaders, and business professionals. Most of them we expect will become CSI Master Trainers. The word I heard from a pastor afterward: "Life-changing!"

Until my next message, keep looking up to Jesus along with me!
