Relief to Haiti—Helping Orphans and Adults after the Earthquake

Though thousands of lives have tragically been lost by the Haitian earthquake, thousands of more lives are struggling to survive in the wake of its devastation. Mission to Children’s ministry partners in Haiti are working hard to meet the urgent needs of survivors. One of our current relief efforts is centered on a Christian school in La Grange, a village located north of Port-au-Prince. At least 4,000 Haitian adults and children have found shelter there—many of them walking for two days from the destroyed capital city in order to seek refuge at the school.

As several thousand children and families flee the destruction of Port-au-Prince they are collecting more and more orphans as they walk north to safety in La Grange (a two-day walk). Bodies, illness, and destruction abound. Imagine how overwhelming this situation is to an orphaned child!

It costs about 30 cents per day to feed each person, or $1,200 to feed 4,000 people. 100% of your donation helps bring food, water filters, clothing, blankets, wheelchairs, tents, and urgently-needed medical supplies to this refuge center and others like it. These funds enable Haitian ministry staff to tangibly demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ to those who desperately need the hope that only He can give. Donate now

Haiti Relief Update
May 2010

Our ministry partners are shining a light in the darkness of Haiti as their relief efforts and ministries help those in dire need. Thanks to your prayers and financial support, the school feeding program continues to provide daily meals to many children, and over 400 Haitian families (about 2,000 people) receive bags of food weekly, containing cooking oil, spaghetti, rice, and beans. Medical supplies and household necessities have also been distributed, as well as tarps for shelter.

Our Haitian ministry partners held evangelistic gatherings to offer encouragement and the hope of the Gospel. As a result, over 500 people surrendered their lives to Christ!

God’s hand is moving in other amazing ways: Though it received little media attention, President Prevál of Haiti cancelled the annual Mardi Gras celebration this year and, instead, called his nation to three days of prayer and fasting on February 12, 2010.* Over 1 million Haitians attended, and there were 3,000 confirmed decisions to follow Christ—101 of which were made by voodoo priests!

Your donation of just $25 provides a Haitian family with food for a week. Although Haiti still faces a long road of healing and rebuilding ahead, would you continue to pray that transformation would continue in the hearts of its leaders and people?

“Revive us so we can call on Your name once more. Turn us again to Yourself, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies. Make Your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved” (Psalm 80:18b-19).
