God Opens Doors in South Central, Los Angeles\
March 2007
I’m eager to share with you what God is doing through Mission To Children. You are very aware that through your generosity we reach out with the hands of Jesus to at-risk children overseas. But did you know we are building up at-risk children in North America also?
Recently at Fremont High School in South Central Los Angeles, fourteen students sat through the character training seminars that we provide internationally. To date we’ve trained Bolivians, Romanians, Liberians, South Africans, and Jordanians. But this past March 12-16, 2007, American at-risk youth learned valuable lessons about integrity, loyalty, kindness, and wisdom. To their credit, they even sat through class when theirs peers made it known there would be a fight that afternoon between Hispanics and African-American youth. Instead these two groups hugged each other and their four teachers, with a few tears mixed in. What a mighty God we serve (Ephesians 3:20-21)!
After the seminar, one student said, “I’m finding out my real character.” Another said, “I found out how to be loyal and have confidence and good character.”
The photo shows Jeff Kerkhoff, a Mission To Children board member (far right) alongside the students and trainers at the Fremont campus. Jeff was well-received by the students; in fact, they applauded him after he told them Bible stories for one of the lessons. Join with us in celebrating God’s breakthrough to these students!
