Dr. J.D. Carlson

Dr. J.D. Carlson, Founder of the Mission to Children

Dr. J.D. Carlson was a distinguished pastor and radio broadcaster, well known for concluding his weekday programs with an encouragement for listeners to “Keep looking up!”

In 1959, Dr. Carlson set out for his first overseas visit. It changed his life—and the lives of thousands more. Journeying through countries such as Haiti, Korea, Vietnam and India, Joe was shocked by the poverty he encountered. He was especially moved by the desperate plight of countless orphan children, who struggled to survive and had little hope for their future. To help these vulnerable children, the Mission To Children was born.

The Mission To Children was incorporated in Canada (1963) and the United States (1971), known at that time as International  Christian Ministries of the Mission To Children. Today, the Mission to Children team continues to enthusiastically establish its ministry of assistance to those in need because of Biblical promises such as Matthew 10:42, “Whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.”
